Dumb garage doors in ESPHome [WIP]
Integrating my garage doors with ESPHome
I’m trying to learn ESPHome and have a few ideas for some projects. This is one of them.
I have a garage door (well two) that I wish to automate in some ways. The garage doors already have a opener with a single push button on them.
I have 2 of some ESP8266 relay boards* with a single relay on them. I also have 2 vl53l1x ToF Sensors that should be accurate and measure up to 4 meters. I have to solder pins to them and have them work with the boards.
Some luckily has already made a custom component for the vl53l1x sensors and I will try using that. With this I should be able to get the status of the door and know if it is open and if so by how much.
The garage door opener has these states:
- Closed
- Open
- Opening
- Closing
- Stopped
With the opener only having a single button, I will need to handle logic for all the states.
I will update this post with more information when I have begun working further on this project.
